Changelog - v1.1.0

v1.1.0 is now live. This version adds word skip limits to the game, mostly because I felt like allowing the player to skip words ad infinitum made the game too easy. These skip limits do not apply to Casual mode.

Perhaps most notable though, is the game’s release on Android. The original intention was to ship a mobile version of the game via Google Play which would be available for free but supported by ads, however due to difficulties with AdMob and various other technical issues that could not be resolved within acceptable time constraints this has been shelved.

Instead, an ad-free version of the game can be bought via itch.io. This version of the game can be sideloaded onto an Android device.

This will likely be the final major update for Double Antonyms, as I wish to move onto a new, larger project. Minor updates may still follow however if any bugs or issues are found.

Expect a postmortem post in the near future.

New Features

  • Added one more soundtrack to the game - Childhood.
  • There is now a limit on the number of times a new word can be requested based on the number of “skips” a player has. Requesting a new word consumes a skip, while correct guesses give the player a skip up to a maximum of 20. The player is given 10 skips at the start of each game (3 on Insane difficulty.) Skips remain unlimited in Casual mode.

Improvements

  • Reaching 50,000 points in Elimination mode will now automatically activate a Last Stand. This functions similarly to how it does in Time Trial mode - when the player runs out of lives, they’ll be given 10 seconds (20 on Beginner difficulty, 5 on Insane difficulty) for one final guess that will net them 20x points if correct. The game will then end regardless of whether the guess was correct or not.
  • Made some further amendments to the word list.
  • Various quality of life improvements for mobile.
  • The “Games Played” statistic is now split into three different fields - one for each game mode.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where the game would sometimes not save the player’s progress after a Time Trial game. (This probably affected Elimination too, however it was only observed in Time Trial.)
  • It is no longer possible to submit words after the game has ended. (Mobile-only bug)
